Should I download Avira?

So stupid McAfee (which expired and I’m not buying a new one) blocked Google Chrome and the only way for me to get Chrome working again is to uninstall it, I guess. However I still want an antivirus so I was thinking about downloading Avira to get Chrome back. Have you had any good/bad experiences with this antivirus program or what?
I’m also pretty much wiping my computer and deleting WinZip, Firefox, Aim,Paintshop Pro, Re:Alistair etc.
The only programs I want are Chrome, ooVoo, Skype, Itunes and Avira…
So should I download it or what?
Also, is it safe to delete Internet Explorer? rotfll.

Use avast, i think that its the best. i have been using it for 8 months, its fast, blocks malisious urls as well, doesn’t take much ram.try the free avast and if you like it then buy pro or business version.
you can’t uninstall IE.

If you want free then I recommend Avast , superantispyware and Malwarebytes. coupled with Comodo firewall They are all free for personal use . It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly.

Do I need additional web and mail protection with Avira free Antivirus version?

I recently switched to Avira’s free antivirus ver 12.0.0.898 and the freeware version does not include web and mail protection. I switched to Avira because it apparently has a higher detection rate than Avast and AVG, although the con is this lack of mail and web protection. So should I install another third party program for web and mail protection? I’m using Thunderbird as my mail client.

I have XP pro, I bought the computer from my company when it went out of business and that’s what was on it, also had windows firewall.

YES. It’s important to uninstall one antivirus before installing another. Reboot the computer before installing the second program.
