I used to have Norton Anti virus 2005 which got expired and I don’t even have the cd with me and that’s why I can’t update. Since it’s not updated, my computer’s loaded with new viruses so now I need to format it. I was wondering if I can download and update version, as in, the kind of version which will update automatically once I’ve formatted my PC. Thanks.

A comparable antivirus to Avast would be AVG, Avira, or Microsoft Security Essentials. (Only choose one.)

If you mean compatible, then the answer is “nothing”. Never utilize two antivirus programs on the same p.c., ever.

How do I download Avira Anti-Vir Personal?

I can download the file to my laptop but when I try to open it I can only get to the stage where it says preparing installation and then it stops. I’ve tried running it with different compatibility modes, but it still doesn’t work. Is it because I’m on vista or is there something else I can do to get it to work?

Can avira and dpyware doctor work together?

Spyware doc is blocking my avira saying that it is a trojan and its giving the option to block or allow it. If i press allow will spyware doc. still say avira is a trojan???

What is the difference between these computer programs?

For some reason my husband has downloaded Ad-aware, Avira, and Spybot. Aren’t all of these the same antivirus/spyware programs? Any advice would be helpful.

They all remove spyware, but since they are different companies they have different things they will detect. Using multiple products is not unheard of or bad practice. You are just hoping for some overlapping protection.

The best way to avoid spyware is to surf only sites for reputable companies or services. Gambling sites, porn sites, and sites that offer cracks and serials for unlocking games are all sites to avoid.

Another tool you might consider if you already have an infection of spyware is “Hijack This” by Trend Micro. It’s free and gives an awesome view of what is starting up every time Windows boots.

Avira Antivir Personal is often reported as having the highest detection rate, with low false positives. It’s what I have, and have never had a problem.

You need a combination of softwares to help protect ur PC .

As Far as avast is concerned , u need to register for free , give them ur email address and they will send u a free licence key for avast (i.e. for 1 year ) and u are entitled to use the software for 1 year !
